Welcome to Winchester Operatic Society

We are a friendly and lively group that stages musicals, operetta and light operatic productions at the Theatre Royal Winchester.

Of the many distinguished Musical Directors and Producers that have worked with the Society the best known is Sir Malcolm Sargent who worked with us during the 1920s and 1930s. (see History)

Now approaching our centenary we continue to perform at the Theatre Royal, Winchester staging two productions annually in the spring and in the autumn.

Auditions take place before each production. Rehearsals take place at 7.45pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at St Faith's Hall, Back St, Winchester, SO23 9SB (directions). Not all the cast is called for each rehearsal. Productions run for one week.

You may think you know this much-loved and often-performed light opera, but our new production, full of fun and energy, will literally take you to places you have never been before!

There will be plenty that’s familiar – Sullivan’s sparkling tunes beautifully harmonising with Gilbert’s tale of unrequited love amidships and overturning the conventional social order. But as in many of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, a surprise disclosure changes things dramatically at the end of the story

We’re bringing the nautical theme right into the 21st century and beyond, and will be blasting off into outer space in a stunning and exciting show. Come aboard and join us
